Start with Salesforce Agentforce Service, formerly Service Cloud, when support should operate on native Salesforce cases alongside the CRM. Choose Zendesk when the service team wants a separate ticket workspace with Salesforce account context and ticket visibility. Choose Intercom when in-product conversations are central and Salesforce should receive the associated customer and case activity. Choose Freshdesk when agents want Salesforce context and case creation from a separate ticket workspace; its documented connector sync covers contacts and accounts, not Salesforce Cases. These are four different service architectures for a company already using Salesforce.
| Product | Choose it for | Deciding capability | Plan or integration boundary |
|---|
| Salesforce Agentforce Service | Service in the existing Salesforce organization | Native Cases alongside account/contact records | Edition, digital channels and AI entitlements determine scope |
| Zendesk | A separate structured help desk | CRM sidebar plus separately configured ticket-to-case sync | Salesforce API rights and integration administrator permissions |
| Intercom | In-product conversations with CRM context | Live Salesforce context and case creation | Intercom Advanced/Expert; Salesforce API rights; Expert for sandbox connection |
| Freshdesk | A ticket workspace with Salesforce context | Salesforce account/contact context and Case creation from a Freshdesk ticket; sync recipes cover accounts and contacts | Freshdesk subscription; Salesforce Connected App and Freshdesk admin API key; paid Connector Apps tasks for data sync |
Salesforce: keep the case inside the CRM
Salesforce now calls its service suite Agentforce Service; existing documentation still uses Service Cloud. It is the first comparison when the business wants service cases in Salesforce rather than another queue that copies records back. The standard account/contact/case model connects the organization, the person and the issue. The purchase still needs an explicit service edition and channel configuration.
Zendesk: choose the ticket experience, then configure the bridge
The Zendesk integration has several separate components. Salesforce can display real-time Zendesk tickets; ticket data can be mapped to Salesforce case fields; and the Zendesk sidebar can show Salesforce customer information. Configure the parts the service team actually needs. Calling all of this simply a Salesforce integration hides the reporting and ownership decision.
Customer data sync runs from Salesforce accounts into Zendesk organizations and contacts or leads into Zendesk users. That component is one-way and supports one Salesforce organization and one Zendesk account. It is not a two-way case mirror. Salesforce API access and suitable administrators are required.
Intercom: conversation-first service with CRM case actions
The Salesforce app shows account, contact and case information in Intercom and creates cases from conversations. It can also send conversations to Salesforce as tasks. Live inbox-card information is distinct from the attributes mapped into Intercom’s own customer data. Choose mappings and their direction deliberately instead of assuming every object continuously synchronizes.
Installation requires Intercom Advanced or Expert and a Salesforce edition with API access. A regular permitted Salesforce user is required; an API-only user is not supported for the connection. A Salesforce sandbox connection requires Intercom Expert, which matters when evaluating the integration before a production rollout.
Freshdesk: Salesforce context beside a separate ticket
The Salesforce Connector App looks up Salesforce information by the customer email and can show leads, contacts, account details, and associated Tasks, Cases, and Opportunities in the Freshdesk ticket view. Agents can create Salesforce Cases from ticket details while continuing to work the support request as a Freshdesk ticket.
Keep case creation distinct from synchronization: Freshworks documents Connector Apps sync recipes for Salesforce/Freshdesk contacts and accounts, not Cases. Installation requires a Salesforce Connected App and Freshdesk admin API key. Connector app tasks cost $80 per 5,000 tasks on Growth, Pro and Enterprise; the checked documentation does not name a minimum Freshdesk plan for the widget.
Make the system of record explicit
Use a service example with one Salesforce account, two contacts and an open support issue. Change the account’s support tier, add a customer reply, move the request to another agent and close it. Check which system owns each value, which records update, and where the service manager’s report reads the final status. This exercise distinguishes native Cases, synchronized case fields and a ticket view without treating them as equivalent.
Budget service seats, the Salesforce API entitlement where needed, messaging or telephony, AI consumption and implementation separately. The current Salesforce price cards use Starter Suite, Pro Suite, Core, Advanced and Max; identify the purchased edition and add-ons in the quote. See the Salesforce pricing guide and HubSpot comparison for the equivalent CRM-bound decision. All support comparisons.
