Zoho Desk is worth shortlisting when the priority is a low paid entry price with a defined route to self-service, messaging and deeper automation. It is especially relevant to an organization already using Zoho applications. The trade-off is a detailed set of edition limits: the cheapest plan is a small-team email help desk, while public knowledge, advanced routing and multiple brands arrive at different levels.
Where the entry plan fits
Express costs $7 per user/month billed annually, or $9 on monthly billing, and permits up to five users. It includes two support email channels, assignment rules, a ticket workflow rule, happiness ratings and dashboards. That is a specific fit for a compact support operation with modest automation requirements. A sixth user or more complex service workflow changes the edition decision.
Standard is the documented starting point for a public knowledge base and includes up to 50 custom reports. The current plan comparison also lists one website Business Messaging channel on Standard, increasing to ten on Professional and 50 on Enterprise. This current messaging capability should be distinguished from older references to SalesIQ-powered live chat or particular ASAP features.
What growing teams should examine
Professional adds load-balanced ticket assignment and customer-based SLAs. Enterprise supplies skills-based assignment, contract/support-plan SLA management and multiple branded help centers. Those distinctions make Zoho Desk relevant to teams with more demanding service commitments, but they also mean Express’s starting price does not describe the complete portfolio.
For multiple brands, Enterprise portals can use separate appearance, articles and service channels. For a Zoho CRM team, the integration can bring customer context into support. Compare those requirements in the multi-brand, SLA management and CRM integration shortlists.
SLA requirements deserve their own edition check. Standard and above allow up to ten targets per SLA, while customer-based commitments require Professional or Enterprise. Contract-linked support plans require Enterprise. A team selling different service packages should map each promised response and resolution objective to those supported policies before pricing its subscription.
Keep the two AI cost models separate
Zoho’s July 2026 edition update extends BYOK generative features to Express and above, Answer Bot to Standard and above, and Zoho-hosted generation to Professional and above in eligible data centers. Hosted generative assistance and Zia Agents are different budget items: the Agents platform uses model-specific token allowances and overage rates. External providers bill separately when using your own key.
Commerce buyers should also read the integration scope closely. The Shopify Marketplace extension documents order synchronization and ticket creation, plus a Shopify Basic PII restriction. See Zoho Desk pricing and alternatives, or browse the Help Desk category.
Public social support and native web chat
The current plan comparison lists native Business Messaging web chat: 1 channel on Standard, 10 on Professional and 50 on Enterprise. This is distinct from the older SalesIQ live-chat integration. The Social module supports public post/comment workflows while IM handles direct messages. Social-brand and IM-channel limits are separate.
EU regional account
Zoho Desk documents EU hosting and an EU API endpoint. Set the account region before imports and scope connected services when requesting migration. The checked regional pages do not establish a universal EU-only boundary for every optional processor. See the EU-hosting comparison.
