Choose Missive when missed customer promises need explicit assigned tasks alongside collaborative email. It connects Gmail and other email accounts to a separate shared workspace, rather than adding a support panel inside Gmail. For five people who need automatic routing and unattended-email alerts, Productive is the relevant plan; Starter covers tasks and collaboration but excludes rules.
Turn the email promise into work
Missive’s task system includes assigned conversation tasks, subtasks inside a thread and standalone to-dos. Tasks have assignees, status, description and due date. This lets a teammate acknowledge an email while keeping a separate action open for the update promised later. A response-time timer measures a different event and should not stand in for that task.
The Tasks view can group by due date, including Due, Today and This week, and filter by person or team. Tasks created with checkbox syntax need the due date added afterwards; natural-language dates can be extracted when using the task title field. Record the date as part of accepting the work. The documented notification examples cover assignment and status changes; exact-time due-soon and overdue task alerts remain a separate trial requirement.
Coordinate the answer and the owner
Conversation assignment sends work to a person or team and places assigned work in the Tasks view. Multiple assignees are possible, so a team seeking one accountable responder should use a clear single-owner convention. Flexible assignment alone does not decide who owes the next customer update.
When a coworker starts replying, others can see the draft being composed live and edit it together. This is useful for answering with shared context and avoiding parallel work.
Use rules for urgent and aging email
Productive and Business rules combine conditions and actions. Keyword routing can assign an urgent message, and header conditions recognize supported incoming High Importance flags. Aging-conversation rules notify a manager when an email remains unanswered. Several thresholds can create an escalation sequence.
Unreplied and unassigned timers can follow organization or team business hours, excluding nights, weekends and holidays. These are configurable response commitments. They should be evaluated alongside the task deadline for a promised deliverable after the initial answer.
Budget for repliers and collaborators
Included guest access lets outside collaborators view selected threads and add internal comments, but guests cannot reply to customers. Each paid user contributes five guest allowances; each guest can join five conversations. Guests cannot own conversations or tasks, so they do not replace replying or task-owning seats.
The annual Productive rate is $24 per user monthly: five users cost $120 monthly equivalent or $1,440 annually. Compare the complete seat and account model with Hiver’s Gmail-native SLA workflow. Missive is the more direct starting point when the buying requirement is an email-linked task with a recorded due date and the team accepts a new communication workspace.
