Verified
Choose Zoho Desk if you want support tickets connected to a Zoho application environment and can select the edition around explicit workflow limits. Choose Freshdesk if you need an email-first support package that includes a public knowledge base from its entry paid tier. The lowest paid prices describe different scopes: Zoho Express has tight team and workflow limits, while Freshdesk Growth includes self-service.

Where each purchase makes sense
A four-person firm answering a small volume of account questions can assess Zoho Express if two support addresses and one workflow rule cover the process. Its annual subscription equivalent is $28/month for four users. This is a bounded ticketing purchase: a company planning public troubleshooting articles should evaluate Standard instead. The $7 entry price cannot stand in for that edition's full cost or capabilities.
A Zoho CRM customer coordinating sales and after-sales support has a stronger reason to investigate Zoho Desk Standard and above. CRM integration and marketplace connections belong in the edition decision. Map the account fields agents need, ownership rules and the system that controls updates.
Freshdesk Growth fits an email-support team that wants a portal and knowledge base immediately. A software business offering different response promises to paid plans should compare Pro: multiple SLA policies begin there. Ten Pro agents cost $550/month at annual rates before usage and add-ons. Freshdesk also sells Omni separately.
Zoho's SLA guide distinguishes target-based policies, customer-based commitments and support contracts. For a managed service selling support entitlements, that distinction can be more consequential than the inbox interface. For both products, skills routing moves the purchase to Enterprise; neither vendor's low entry tier represents that capability.
Use a sample ticket that changes priority, crosses a department and approaches a deadline. That exposes whether the selected plan has enough rules, the right SLA scope and the required assignment method. Include agents, channel subscriptions, AI consumption and integration work in the final quote.
