Help Scout is a strong choice for teams that want an approachable shared inbox, useful self-service and human support across email and chat. Its buying decision becomes more specific when automatic assignment, customer-specific service targets or large-team controls matter. Standard covers the everyday support foundation; Plus and Pro address different operational needs.
A practical support workspace
Shared inboxes give incoming requests a common place to live, while workflows apply tags, send replies and update conversation status. These are manual or automatic condition-and-action rules, so a team can start with a repeatable process before adding AI. Multiple email aliases can feed an inbox when the same people handle them.
Docs is particularly useful for businesses supporting several products. Each Docs site can have its own branding, content and custom domain. That makes a product-specific help center possible without treating every brand as a separate support organization. Beacon adds website or in-app chat, and customers can rate the session directly.
Ecommerce support is more capable than a simple customer-data sidebar. Help Scout’s Shopify integration supports refunds, cancellations, duplicate orders and order editing alongside order history and tracking. Stores should compare the specific order operations their agents perform, rather than assuming that only an ecommerce-specialist helpdesk can handle them.
Choose the plan around the queue
Standard’s service control is one SLA policy without conditions. Plus supports two conditional policies, while Pro supports unlimited conditional policies. First-response and resolution targets can follow calendar or office hours. A team promising different response times to different customers therefore has a concrete reason to move beyond Standard.
Routing has a separate progression. Plus adds round robin and Pro adds balanced assignment to available teammates with the fewest active conversations. Pro also has a ten-user minimum. A small team buying balanced routing must budget for that minimum even when fewer people actively reply.
Cost and measurement
The paid entry price is $25 per user per month annually. Free supports five users and 100 monthly contacts; paid subscriptions have unlimited contacts. AI Answers adds $0.75 per resolution, and additional inboxes or Docs sites can raise the subscription total.
Customer ratings feed Happiness reports with two years of history on Standard and lifetime history on Plus or Pro. That combination suits teams seeking clear ownership, product documentation and customer feedback. Buy Plus for conditional service policies and round robin; evaluate Pro when balanced workloads and its minimum seat commitment fit the organization.
For development teams, the app platform exposes APIs and webhooks for sidebar extensions and data synchronization. The reporting API requires Plus or Pro, which is a further plan distinction when support metrics must feed other systems.
Moving an Exchange shared mailbox to Help Scout
The current Microsoft 365 shared-mailbox guide uses administrator-configured forwarding. Agents should reply only in Help Scout: Outlook-sent replies do not synchronize back. Keeping a copy in Microsoft 365 is optional, while automatic external forwarding must be allowed for the selected mailbox. Compare this working model with native message-sync connections in the Microsoft 365 and Outlook comparison.
WooCommerce uses a purchased extension
The WooCommerce sidebar provides recent orders and store metrics through a purchased extension. Its documented order links open WooCommerce; the native Shopify write actions are a separate integration.
Company history and CRM context
Plus/Pro company profiles bring together conversations from associated contacts. Those plans also include the HubSpot connector, which displays selected contact/company information and logs conversation activity. Company-wide history is distinct from the contact-only profile, and HubSpot timeline activity is distinct from ticket-object synchronization. See the HubSpot comparison.
